Do you need singing experience for kirtan?

No, you don't any prior formal singing training. I was able to pick up singing and playing the harmonium using this technique without a lot of effort. Over time, it came to me more naturally. You just need a basic music sense and the willingness to experiment with sounds. It's an experiential learning experience. Try, fail, learn.

FAQs

How does this method work?

It's based on mostly visual learning. I break down a kirtan tune into various parts, and show the key movements of each part for you to grasp the transitions and the pattern. You can slow down the video and pause it as many times to see how the pattern works. Listen and try to play together, and emulate the demonstration in the video. It will become internalized in your head, and you will be able to do it.

Can I try the courses risk-free?

Absolutely, the courses are hosted on Udemy.com, and they have a 30-day money back guarantee if the course content doesn't work for you. You just have to write to support@udemy.com and they will refund it back to you.

What should I use for tala or rhythm?

I recommend using iTabla Pro app on iTunes. It's very good in the sense that you can choose various taals, change the speed of the tabla, add kartals, change pitch. It also has a lot of presets that can come handy. Try the Lite version of the app first.

Do you teach in person or online 1:1?

Due to paucity of time, I don't take personal or online 1:1 classes, although there have been requests before. I have to balance regular work and family pursuits with personal interests.
